The name Nangelil dates back to the legendary ancestral tradition of marma chikitsa in Kerala which created a new dimension in orthopaedic management incorporating modern diagnostic methods with a scientific approach.. Considering the profound proficiency, Dr Vijayan Nangelil, the great visionary and founder of this institution has been selected as the revered Guru ( Acharya) under the scheme of Rashtriya Vidya Peetom, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare , Govt of India, New Delhi. Starting of the Nangelil Ayurveda Medical College under the aegis of Nangelil charitable trust (Reg.No.SR/P/3-2001) in 2002 was a milestone in the growth of Nangelil group of institutions. ..Considering the facilities, Govt of Kerala had accorded sanction and approval to start the Ayurveda college, vide GOMS No 225/H&FWD dated 28.08.2002, and permission was also granted to conduct Para-medical courses here. This college is a self financing institution started with the aim to impart authentic wisdom of Ayurveda and conducts Ayurveda Acharya (BAMS) 5½ years course envisaged and approved by the CCIM vide letter FNo. 4-10/2002/Ay (1) dated 22.07.12 of CCIM New Delhi. The College is fully under the governance of the board of directors of the trust and Dr K A Bhaskaran, the renowned physician is the president of the trust.
